Hi (R) emotes,
βοΈ (R) emote Expresso is a short creator insights over the remote collaboration to start your day with - Once a week in your inbox π

This week, your Expresso is live on Monday, speaking about engagement in a community : how many sleeping members are counting remote communities and why is it something we have to look after ?
π€² Fellow my community catalyst thought !

π₯ DOES IT LOOK LIKE A CRASH ?
Just a few days ago, we were on the verge of hitting our first 1,000 members in this growing community, when suddenlyβ¦

Scalping our young communityβ¦ For the first time πͺ
I made a bold move : I decided to purposely remove 10% of our member list. Almost πͺπͺπͺ
Sounds crazy, right ? Well, hereβs why : over the past month, we noticed that our content open rate was slowly declining. How could the interest in our content drop so quickly when we pour our hearts into every piece ?
π The R Team started to feel the pressure.
After diving into our Beehiiv segmentation tools, we made a crucial discovery : hundreds of members hadnβt opened a single email in 90 daysβ¦ not even once π§

π§ββοΈπ§ββοΈ A COMMUNITY OF ZOMBIES ?
Not on my watch ! Building a strong community means staying dynamic. So, I decided to take a step back and trim the list with two goals in mindβ¦ and one unexpected benefit. π
Goal 1 : focus on our most active and engaged members β€οΈ.
Goal 2 : reduce unread messages cluttering peopleβs inboxes.
Benefit : shrink our environmental footprint π±.
Did you know that sending an email has double the environmental impact of just storing it for a year, in terms of water consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions ?
By being proactive and removing inactive members, weβre staying ahead of the curveβ¦ Including a small daily action for the planet !

β¨ WHATβS UP NOW ?
Just a week later, new branches are already growing from the cut π±

Look on the right, the baby branch is already here !
Take a look aroundβnew faces, new energy are already joining us. Weβre not looking to prune the list again anytime soon, but weβre 100% focused on creating a space where (R)emotes from around the world can connect through shared practice, events, and insights.
As we continue to refine the way we engage with you through the newsletter (big changes are on the horizon this month π), weβre also experimenting with new ways to connect, peer-to-peer π€.
My takeaway? A smaller, more motivated community is the foundation for trust, safety, and authentic engagement.
Itβs still day one for us, but this is the key learning from September I wanted to share with you. π«Ά
